A New Year

Happy New Year, sweet girls! How was your New Years? What did you do? Anything exciting that is worth sharing with the rest of us? I went to one of my friends house and rang in the New Year over there with some old college buddies. I had a good time, but boy oh boy was I tired. How sad is that? I promise I am not getting too old to have fun, though.

Anyway, I am so grateful for a new year, a new start, however, I am so grateful that we get a new start every day. Every morning. (Lam.3:22-23) If we didn't get a new start every morning, I would be completely sunk. I need that new start. And Praise the Lord we get it!

With that said, I am not too huge on new years resolutions. I don't know, I guess I know I'll blow it and end up letting myself down, so I just don't even try. I'd rather have a new day resolution every day and try and stick to that, which in my opinion, is much more doable. Sometimes I have to stick to a minute by minute resolution. You know what I mean?

However, this year has been a little different. No, I didn't make up a list of resolutions, but I have committed to do one thing, and that is start memorizing scripture intentionally. I have committed to memorize 24 scriptures this year, which is two a month. Y'all, do you know how easy that is? My mind is a hot mess and the only way to get it under control is to fill it with truth. To meditate on that truth and to believe the truth.

I was challenged by a group of ladies to do it, so I took the challenge. I think it is a wonderful resolution that I can definitely stick to. I don't plan on giving up any time soon. Actually right now I am thoroughly enjoying it. It has been so good for me.

So, here is my challenge to you:

Would you like to join me on the memorization journey? Girls, at your young age you could benefit greatly from this. Truly anybody can benefit from doing such a thing and hiding God's word in your heart, but if you start doing this now and continue doing it throughout life, think about how extremely blessed your sweet little minds would be. They would be flooded with truth. Oh Lord, please flood our minds with your truth!

I am not asking you to memorize two scriptures a month, I am only asking that you would consider memorizing ONE a month with me. Each month I'll share the scriptures I am learning with you, and you can either memorize the same ones as me, or you can pick your own. Totally up to you! However, I am very serious about this. I really want our minds to be bathed in scripture. I am totally committed to it and am asking if you would be committed, also. If so, either send me an email or leave me a comment telling me you want to so I can hold you accountable to it and so that I can hear what scriptures you have chosen to memorize. We can encourage one another through this!

What I have done is I have bought a spiral note card set and am writing the scriptures I am going to memorize in that, and then I am carrying it with me everywhere I go, that way during any down time, I can pull it out and look at it. That is really all you have to do!

The passage I am memorizing right now is Isaiah 26:3-4. It is at the bottom of this post!

So, this is my challenge to you, sweet girls. That we would let the Lord invade our minds and hearts.

I love you all and am so happy to start a fresh, new year with you. It is my absolutely honor to serve you girls! Let's make 2009 a year to remember.

wow, can I join in too? I need a group to motivate me. What an awesome thing way to get that Scripture in there. And I love your first one- I found that verse last year right as school was starting and everything was going crazy- I love the idea of 'perfect peace'. Thanks, Lindsee, for the challenge. Janet
